What's something you've learned along the way that you wished you knew long before you knew it?

I'll go first, I wish I understood that just asking for feedback wasn't enough. I needed to ask for SPECIFIC feedback AND give my boss time to think about it before giving it to me. I would ask for feedback constantly and be frustrated by the lack of specifics.

Turns out, my boss would often not be in the right headspace to give me the feedback I was asking for and wouldn't have the right context for the feedback I wish I was getting.

When I figured this out, it was a game changer! Not only did I get "better" feedback but my relationship with my boss got better. They knew how to better tell me what I wanted and/or needed to hear.
